The moment to reflect on each of the domains and competencies allows me to focus on the areas in which I need to improve as well to assure where my strengths are as a leader.
Domain I: Leadership of the Educations Community
Competency 1:
The ability to act with integrity, fairness, and in an ethical manner is a natural for me. This competency expresses the ability for the entire district to do what is right for children within the laws and policies within the education system. I am confident in all areas of competency 1.
Competency 2:
The leadership ability to develop and implanted a “shared vision” is an area where I see as a challenge. However, the ability to facilitate, monitor, and implement strategies of the individual descriptors is where I have strengths. I must remind myself the educational community includes beyond the district boundaries.
Competency 3:
The internship activities and my current position allowed me to grow in this competency. I have developed partnerships with area businesses and social resources to benefit the district. I personally look for improvement to search innovate ways to allow the community, parents, students, and district to work together.
Competency 4:
I am on the leadership team of my district and have indirectly worked in many areas in this competency. The area of improvement I need comes with experience and the opportunity to work directly with the board of trustees. I continue to observe my superintendent during the board meetings to learn the roles and responsibilities of the panel.
The final reflection of Domain 1 indicates I have grown in areas of the board members and the importance of all constituencies. I have become aware of the role of the superintendent and how he leads his leadership team of principals, assistant superintendent, and me.
The working relationship with board members and their roles is an area where I need to focus on in this domain.
Domain 2 – Instructional Leadership
The competencies in this domain are my comfort zone. My current position gives me the opportunity to be a district leader to all of the campuses in the area of instructional leadership. My job responsibilities include almost the entire domain and this allows me to continue to grow, facilitate, and lead with our district. I am seeking improvement in seeing that integration of technology is consistently being experienced by students and working through the change process of aligning the curriculum with the current state assessments.
Domain 3 – Administrative Leadership
This is the domain where I have received the most growth. Also, this is the domain where I still feel I need to improvement my knowledge and experience in budgeting, funding, and facilities during this program. I have seen the budget process and the talk of funding in my current position which has been an asset for me. I will continue to seek information and prompt more conversations with my superintendent and business office
