Action Research

“Action Research” is just what the name implies. Researching for answers and taking action. In the 21st century the powerful technology expands this practice from within our own institution to others across the world. Blogs, Wiki’s, Project Share, and social networking are a valuable source for educators to gather and share professional information during the action research process. I identify action research as a process of recognizing a problem, making a plan, taking action, monitoring, and reflecting on the outcome.

A current issue facing all Texas schools is the upcoming changes of the STAAR assessments. The action research process will be essential as educators begin to collaborate looking for solutions that will fulfill the needs of their students and campuses. Expected changes from time limits, two day testing, and EOC’s will require change and making a plan is a valuable first step. The collaboration among educators in necessary to overcome the new obstacles placed before us. More important will be the reflection that will be taking place after the last test is sent to be scored.

Blogs for Educators

An educational leader who blogs is inviting others to share in the experience of their campus or district. I think this is an excellent outreach to teachers, parents, and students to understand the importance of everyone striving for the learners of the next generation. Encouraging administration and teachers to follow a blog or blog within their content will give the person a sense of knowledge and a moment of reflection of their own actions. Therefore, educators involved with blogging are staying in touch with others who share the similar situations as their own.
